American Thanksgiving is done and the Christmas holidays are officially on the horizon. I’m trying to get a jump on things this year so I can actually accomplish the long list of festive things I want to do with Eleanor. It also feels like a welcome distraction to everything going on in the world. I do not mean distraction as in I have stopped paying attention to the protests at Standing Rock, or the Canadian government’s impending decisions on the Norther Gateway and Trans Mountain pipelines, or the continuing horror of the Trump administration down South. I mean a distraction to bring me back to the reason I want to fight these battles. Family, friends, holidays, my beautiful planet, that’s the good stuff in life I want to protect.

Today is traditionally a day of mass consumerism, when the malls turn to mayhem and bargains galore are advertised. This is of course mostly an American tradition, but to a lesser extent Canada has gotten into the game these last few years. If you are thinking of shopping for a bargain, I have put together some links to brands and shops I trust and love where your money will be well spent supporting local and ethical makers and charitable causes. Feel good about grabbing a deal today and check out some of these lovely companies below.

One of my absolute favourite shops for littles, and a local British Columbia based small business, Red Creek Handmade is donating 40% of their profits this weekend to the Standing Rock Sioux tribe and Planned Parenthood. A brand after my own heart.

Every year Everlane donates the profits from their sales on Black Friday to improving the conditions for workers at one of their factories. This year they are raising money to provide employees at their factory in Vietnam with 8,000 moped helmets.

Mabo Kids is offering 20% off this weekend with the code THANKFUL16.

Get some warm Christmas jammies in the coziest merino wool at 20% off at Chasing Windmills with the code THANKFUL20.

Elizabeth Suzanne is offering a sliding scale deal on their website this weekend. The more you spend, the more you save on the beautiful wardrobe of your dreams.

Willaby has all sorts of holiday bundle deals on right now, including the cutest little kimono tops for the tiniest babes.

In lieu of a saleĀ Hazel Village, who makes some of the most beautiful toys around, will be donating 10% of their proceeds from this weekend to a NYC shelter for women and families.

Always a favourite around these parts, Rylee and Cru is having a site wide 15% off sale today, including already marked down styles.

If you are looking for the most beautiful, ethically made, knits for the babes in your life (including the hat Eleanor is wearing above) there are no better out there than Misha and Puff. Starting Saturday they are offering 20% off their entire site.

I have had so many comments on the gorgeous wool coat Eleanor has been wearing lately (seen above). It is from the incredibly talented Tortoise & the Hare Clothing and they are offering free shipping on all orders today.

Anyone who knows me, or my photographs, knows I am in love with Briar Handmade bonnets. Their whole shop is on sale today and they have brand new bonnets in stock.

None of this post is sponsored, I just love these brands.
