It is officially December, one of the most magical months of the year, and what a week it has been. We have all been taking turns getting colds, our poor pup Olive isn’t feeling very well, and Peter’s business is experiencing its usual crazy December rush. This coupled with above average rain, even for the Pacific Northwest, and the extra activities and to dos that come with the Christmas season and we are all about ready to collapse.
I had all sorts of plans for the blog this week and in the end I was barely able to get two posts together. I take comfort in the fact that there will be weeks like this, but they will pass, and next week will be a whole new ballgame. In the meantime to go with the first instalment of my holiday gift guide I have put together a collection of links to my favourite gift guides around the internet to really get your Christmas juices flowing.
I wait for the Cup of Jo gift guide all year long. As usual the brilliant Joanna Goddard and her impeccable taste have found the very best gifts for your Mom, your brother, your kid and your best friend. If years past are any indication your sister (she has a twin!) and your significant other will be coming up next week. Standouts include the warmest leggings that get Norwegian kids through the winter, a hilarious book, and a board game I’m dying to try.
Miss Moss, another consistent favourite of mine, has a colour coded gift guide this year. Such a cool idea to make the whole thing feel fresh. So far she has done black, green, and white and they’re all so good. I can’t stop thinking about this ring, this vase to dress up my side table, and this gorgeous french press.
I have previously declared my love for the New York Times graphics department and they have gone and outdone themselves with their holiday gift guide this year. If for no other reason do not miss this one because it is downright charming to look at. They also have some killer gift ideas, like this gorgeous knit grocery bag, and a classic sled that will last a lifetime.
Mother Mag absolutely nailed this gift guide for new and expecting moms. There are so many of my favourites on this list, including our beloved Misha and Puff popcorn sweater, Hatch and Storq maternity clothes (the BEST!), the wonderful Block Shop’s new baby blankets (don’t forget to check out their classic scarves too), and Eleanor’s very first bunny bonnet. I still tear up just looking at it. There are so many other goodies on here too, it was clearly put together by women who have been there. Also, they included one of the best gifts of all for new parents, Amazon Prime. Genius.
This guide from Honey Kennedy for your best girls is so pretty and bursting with amazing gift ideas. This fancy hand cream has been on my list for awhile and I love the idea of gifting a gardener on your list some heirloom roses.
My sister and I get each other Christmas pajamas every year now that we are big and grown and Santa doesn’t see fit to bring them anymore, but I’m pretty sure she wouldn’t turn away anything from this lovely list from Wit & Delight, especially this special edition copy of Little Women from the always stunning Rifle Paper.
And last but not least, I absolutely have to post this sweet short Christmas film Wes Anderson made with H&M. Despite all the stress we ran into this week it got me right back into the holiday spirit.
